Assistant Controller - Operational Reporting


Our client – a prestigious, successful real estate private equity firm – seeks a take-charge accounting professional to lead the operational/property accounting function. For the past 20 years, the company has focused on value creation across all asset classes with a focus towards office and land held for development. Since its inception, the company has completed more than $4.7B of transactions in the DC area, achieving exceptional returns. They have a highly reputable executive management team that has positioned the company for continued success and expansion, and they have a positive, team-oriented culture. The firm has more than $1B in committed capital, and the company culture is entrepreneurial.


Reporting to the Director of Real Estate Accounting, the Assistant Controller will help the company transition from third-party property management to in-house management and will work closely with the newly established property management department to successfully transition management and accounting services in house. This person will supervise a staff of 4-6 and will oversee financial statement preparation and reporting, general accounting, management / investor reporting, and financial planning and budgeting. Duties also include management of the audit, review and tax process with various external CPA firms, monitor liquidity of the investments and associated loan covenants, and coordinate with REIT Compliance and Fund Accounting departments. The Assistant Controller will also be responsible for other duties associated with running the financial function for the property management division. 


  • At least 7 years of accounting experience and significant experience in real estate required.
  • CPA highly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel preferred.
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit, highly motivated, and able to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize while maintaining strong attention to detail.
