Head of Real Estate Development

COMPANY BACKGROUND:

We have been retained by a successful, acquisition-oriented, well-capitalized, entrepreneurial real estate investment and development company headquartered in the Washington, DC metro area.  In addition to an established mixed-use portfolio of quality assets, the company also has significant, transit-oriented mixed-use projects under development in the DC metro area, totaling over 6 million square feet.  They are currently seeking a strategic, driven, and high-potential real estate professional to join their team as the Head of Development.  The company will have meaningful growth over the next 3-5 years, and this person will be instrumental in executing the strategic vision of substantial, iconic projects throughout the region.  This is a unique, special opportunity to join a well-capitalized company as they go through an exciting period of growth, expansion, and development. 

POSITION INFORMATION:

Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Asset Management, this is a highly visible and critical position for the company.  This person will be part of the senior leadership team as well as have interaction/exposure to the Board, investors, as well as real estate leaders in the marketplace.  This person will be responsible for the strategic oversight, coordination and management/leadership over the daily activities required for the planning, permitting and execution of multiple high quality, complex, mixed-use real estate development projects in the DC metro area.   This person will plan and direct new projects and expand and/or renovate existing projects through budget creation, control development expenditures and will ultimately provide the most economic, efficient, maintainable mixed-use facilities that have a high quality of design and create a sense of place.  This person must have the highest level of personal integrity, intelligence and broad thinking characteristics to succeed.  This is an outstanding, strategic opportunity with a highly reputable organization.

Compensation:

Excellent compensation package including base, bonus, and equity.  Total annual compensation in excess of $500k.

If needed, full relocation will be provided.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 12-15 years of relevant development experience with a real estate owner/developer. Prior experience in leading/managing complex mixed-use development projects highly preferred.
  • BS/BA Degree in engineering, real estate, or other relevant area.  Graduate degree preferred, not required.
  • Excellent strategic business sense, with extensive breadth and depth of complex, large-scale real estate projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering and architectural plans with the ability to manage/prioritize multiple projects.
  • Working knowledge of contract law, zoning law, real estate finance, and construction management.
  • A genuine team player who can work closely with all levels of operating management.  Excellent interpersonal skills with strong initiative who can work in an effective, positive, productive manner. Work effectively in an intense, results-driven, collaborative, positive team/company environment.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation. 

TOTAL ESTIMATED ANNUAL CASH COMPENSATION: Contingent Upon Experience.
