Director, Business Development & Strategy


Our client, a rapidly growing, dynamic, highly successful software technology company seeks a bright, high-potential professional to lead business development, marketing, and strategy for the organization.    The company is a software as a service (SaaS) client solutions company serving the financial services, credit, and specialty finance sectors.  Having recently been acquired by a private equity firm, the company is going through rapid growth and expansion, with the expectation to double in size and revenue over the next five years.  The company has a unique business model and is viewed as a leader in their market with the potential to expand market share / customer base. They have an experienced, highly reputable, forward-thinking management team that continues to lead them to achieve/exceed their goals and objectives.  They have an innovative, unique product and their customers include some of the most prominent, leading financial service/credit organizations.  The environment is dynamic, hands-on, fast-paced, results-oriented and positive.  The company is located in the Metro Washington, DC area (if needed, relocation will be provided).


In this newly created position, this person will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer, who is an experienced leader/manager that people enjoy working for and with.  To date, the CEO has been responsible for leading/managing business development, marketing, and strategy functions. They seek a high-potential person who has the interest, drive, and ability to take over the business development, marketing, and strategy function over time. Ultimately, with appropriate time/mentoring, this person will move beyond this role into a more senior leadership position at the company or one of the other portfolio companies within the PE firm’s ownership/investment group.  This is a highly visible, critical role for the company in that this person will have valuable interaction/collaboration with the President, the senior leadership team, and prominent existing/future clients.  Given the focus in the financial services, credit, and specialty finance industries, they are looking for a thoughtful, humble, patient, tenacious, strategic, hands-on professional who understands and appreciates a longer, more methodical BD/Sales cycle.


  • Minimum 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Prior exposure/interaction with financial services and specialty finance is strongly preferred, not required.
  • Ability/enjoyment of a longer business development process and sale cycle.
  • Strong ability to develop relationships with potential clients over a period of time.
  • Ability and desire to make cold calls, reach out to target clients, and attend networking events.
  • Enjoys an entrepreneurial, faced paced environment with the ability to deal with the most senior executives.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.  Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Highest level of ethics, honesty, and integrity.  
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks on time and in an organized manner.
  • Able to demonstrate strong leadership skills. Train and develop staff when required.
  • Able to travel 5-10 days/nights per month.


Compensation: Excellent compensation package includes competitive salary, bonus and potential equity.
