Controller / Director of Finance


We are exclusively retained by our client, a leading strategic communications, public relations, and consulting firm with offices in major metropolitan cities throughout the United States.  They are seeking a talented, forward-thinking professional to join their team as the Controller/Director of Finance for the headquarters in Washington, DC.  The company’s Founding Partners and executive management team is comprised of meaningful, intelligent, entrepreneurial leaders who are highly respected in the marketplace and within the organization.  Their clients include some of the most prominent Fortune 500 companies across the country, and the company has gone through impressive, consistent annual growth since its inception over 10 years ago.  The company is well-positioned for continued growth and further expansion.  The company culture is excellent, in that they are collaborative, smart, self-motivated, sophisticated, and collegial.  They strongly appreciate and value their employees and provide meaningful, long-term career opportunities.

Compensation: Excellent compensation includes competitive base salary, bonus, and strong benefits. 


This critical position will be reporting to the Founding Partner/Chief Operating Officer, who has an impressive background and is excellent business partner.  The Controller/Director of Finance will be designated as a high-potential performer and will be a thought-leader, providing strategic financial and business leadership to the team.  This person will need a forward-thinking mentality, while also being flexible/nimble to be more hands-on when necessary.  This person will have a strong level of autonomy, with oversight of the full accounting function (external/management reporting, planning, budgeting, cash flow, forecasting, A/P, A/P, and financial systems, etc.).  This is a meaningful role that offers excellent depth and breadth of responsibility, with the opportunity to partner with the excellent management team.      



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in Accounting & Finance functions, with at least 2 years of managerial experience.
  • Public accounting/Big 4 foundation combined with hands-on corporate financial experience strongly preferred           
  • A hands-on, take-charge financial professional with strong financial and analytical skills  
  • High level of integrity with results-orientation and a strong sense of urgency
  • Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software
  • A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
