Director, Accounting / Assistant Controller

COMPANY BACKGROUND:

Our client is an entrepreneurial, energy-focused private equity firm headquartered in the DC area.  The company's proven strategy has a broad focus across several target energy markets.  The leadership has extensive expertise in the power industry, and its principals have worked at leading energy-focused institutions and top-tier financial institutions. The company is well positioned to continue its rapid growth through acquisition and optimization, and is expected to remain a stalwart competitor in the space.  The culture of the group is hands-on and entrepreneurial and offers growth and development opportunities to high performers. The company is looking to expand the financial leadership in its DC-area, Metro-accessible, state-of-the-art corporate headquarters as the organization continues to grow.

POSITION INFORMATION:

Reporting to the CFO, this Director of Accounting will have a broad range of responsibilities across the company’s operations.  This person will manage the accounting activities for a portfolio of assets in addition to providing strategic accounting direction for the firm and its processes.  Responsibilities include leading the monthly close process and managing the consolidated financial statement process in accordance with GAAP, financial reporting, managing the annual external audit, technical accounting research and drafting memos, creating and improving reporting processes, partnering/coordinating with other portfolio financial leaders, and some cash management. This person will also lead and mentor a small team.  The company’s culture is entrepreneurial and allows for high performers to take on additional responsibilities with time.

Compensation: Excellent compensation package including salary and incentive bonus.

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. in Accounting, Finance, or other related degree.  CPA required.
  • Minimum 8+ years progressive accounting experience; Big 4 or other reputable public accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to energy or other capital-intensive industries a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and organization/project management skills. 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, and an ability to build strong professional relationships across all levels of an organization.
  • Highest level of trust, integrity, and commitment.
  • Able to work independently as well as with a team.
