Chief Financial Officer


Our client, a highly successful, prominent, award-winning, privately-held, real estate Multi-Family owner, manager, and developer of Class A and Workforce properties across the Mid-Atlantic region.  The company has an impressive portfolio which is well-maintained with a high standard/tradition level of excellence. This stable portfolio along with the company being well-capitalized, positions the group for substantial growth and progression. The current portfolio includes ownership of over 25,000 multi-family units, as well as office and hospitality assets.  With over 1,500 employees, the company is looking to add a communicative, forward-thinking, hands-on accounting expert to join the executive management team as the Chief Financial Officer.  This is a highly visible, critical role for the organization which will provide leadership, accountability, long-term vision/strategy and drive meaningful change to the accounting and finance functions.  The company is going through an exciting and meaningful period of transformation, and seeks a best-in-class leader to position the company for growth and prominence in the marketplace. This position is based at the company headquarters in the DC-Metro area.




This critical position will report to the CEO/ Owner, who has an excellent reputation and is recognized for being a thoughtful, honest, strategic leader who cares about the long-term success of the organization, its employees, and the communities they serve.  They are looking for an intelligent leader who can oversee and further develop a best-in-class accounting department, comprised of 20+ talented employees.  This person will have oversight of corporate accounting, property accounting, financial and investor reporting, tax, treasury, and IT.  This person will be a communicative, forward-thinking leader who can handle multiple priorities, take initiative, and drive meaningful change.  As a member of the corporate executive team, this person will partner closely with the CEO/Owner and will become a trusted advisor to the direction of the company.  This is an excellent opportunity to drive transformation, change, and growth with a well-capitalized, reputable organization.  This individual must have outstanding technical accounting abilities, along with strong communication skills and ability to display thoughtful leadership.  This person will set the standards of excellence and make significant improvements to processes, efficiencies, technology, and talent management. 


Compensation: Excellent compensation package including competitive base salary, annual bonus, long-term incentive/equity program. If needed, full relocation will be provided.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field.  Big 4 or Regional Accounting Firm experience highly preferred.      
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive accounting experience.  Meaningful managerial/supervisory experience required.   
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Ability to lead, develop, and mentor a best-in-class accounting team successfully.
  • Strong communication skills with professional presence.  Ability to present effectively to executive management and investors.  
  • Excellent business sense and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people.  Strong problem solving and mentoring skills necessary.
  • Ability to manage multiple, shifting priorities, while being able to effectively delegate and also be hands-on when necessary.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills.  Given the exposure and visibility this person will have, the successful candidate should have excellent oral and written communications skills, with a combination of an analytical and conceptual mindset.
